Cwmbran Community Council was formed following the reorganisation of Local Government in 1974 and is one of the largest Community (town) Councils in Wales. Covering the main part of Cwmbran, the Council serves approximately 30,000 residents.
As a democratically-elected statutory body the Council raises its funds through setting an annual 'precept' which is collected by Torfaen County Borough Council and passed on to the Community Council. The Council then uses this money on a wide vairety of services which "add value" and "make a difference" in the community.
The Council comprises 20 elected members (representing you on a ward by ward basis) who make decisions on the services and activities provided and, in their representational capacity, liaise with their County Borough Council colleagues to deal with other issues of interest and concern.
The Council is serviced and supported by a small team of dedicated staff, under the direction of David Orphan, Clerk to the Council. The "team" undertakes all the necessary administrative, organisational and financial tasks, in accordance with the Council's wishes and aspirations to provide services for all age ranges and situations, based on regular contact with the community.
