Outgoing Chairman of the Council, Councillor Peter Cathcart, ended his year of office in colourful style last night, with another of his poems, which have been a feature of his year of office.
Councillor Catchcart said….
A Poem for Annual Council
This time of being Chairman, as passed so speedily
I am lucky to have witnessed, so many things you see.
Like the Eisteddfod up in Pontypool, which started with a “Croeso,”
I learned that this means Welcome. Something I did not know.
The event went on a long time – in a language new to me.
But I felt at home the most times – I sing in a choir you see.
The rendering of Sospan Fach – its lyrics quite amusing.
The translation made me chuckle so – a new song I can sing?
Then soon was time for prizes….medals, cups and shields
And finally, some more new words Diolch – which means thank you, so it seems.
We said “Hwyl Fawr” on leaving. “Goodbye” as I recall.
So I end my term of office ….with a Hwyl Fawr to you all!
