New Chairman Celebrates Important Milestone

The new Chairman of Cwmbran Community Council has spoken at his pride in being elected to the role and is looking forward to his year of office and, in particular, helping to celebrate an important milestone for the town.

New Chairman, Councillor Anthony Bird said “We face bigger and harder challenges, greater demands of the time, resources and expertise of this council. But I look around this chamber, at all of my colleagues assembled here and I rest easy in the knowledge that in this, our town’s 70th year, we can face those challenges together.”

Councillor Bird paid tribute to the work of his predecessor, Councillor Peter Cathcart and described his pride at being the Council’s youngest ever Chairman.

Councillor Bird will be using his term of office to help raise funds for his chosen charities, Trac 2 and the British Legion in Pontnewydd. Donations can be made at the Council House, Ventnor Road, Cwmbran NP44 3JY.

The new Vice Chairman of the Council is Councillor Leighton Johnston.
