Vibrant & Exciting Events
The Council arranges a vibrant series of exciting events each year to engage and stimulate the community.
Here are some of the highlights each year
Schools Eco Quiz
This fun quiz tests the knowledge of our schoolchildren on environmental matters and the world around them. It’s a great way for the Council to encourage an understanding of sustainability, climate change and biodiversity amongst local primary school children.
The event normally takes place around February.
Community Celebration Dinner
In March, as part of our St David’s Day celebrations, we host a special evening to say thank you to the many organisations and individuals who help to sustain our communities. It’s a wonderful way to showcase the work of our partners and celebrate our community champions.
Cwmbran Big Event
This hugely popular community event usually takes place in June at Cwmbran Boating Lake. The event includes a dog show, raft race, craft and food stalls, and a wide variety of music and dance acts. It is a great day out for all the family! It has however been held virtually for the past few years but we hope to bring it back live soon.
Flag Raising
The Council supports a number of national celebrations and commemorations each year by raising appropriate colours at the Council House. Highlights include Armed Forces Week, Pride Cymru, Merchant Navy Day, Dydd Owain Glyndŵr and Armistice Day.
Members of the public, armed forces and veterans are welcome to observe our simple yet dignified flag-raising ceremonies. Our flagpoles are a permanent tribute to those who have given their lives in the struggle for liberty.
Senior Schools Festival
This is a chance for the older pupils to tread the boards and dazzle us with their talents. Hang on to your hats for some great performance from the stars of tomorrow!
Primary Schools Festival
Could your school produce the next Little Mix or Idina Menzel? Make sure you enter our wonderful series of concerts held at the Congress Theatre. Your chance to perform on a real stage in front of an audience. Just “Let it Go!”

Christmas
We round off our programme of events with a delightful series of tree lighting ceremonies in the heart of Cwmbran.
Celebrate the festive season by singing carols beneath one of our magnificently decorated trees.
