Today (Wedneday 3rd September) at 10am we commemorated Merchant Navy Day by raising the flags outside the Council House.
The service was opened with a welcome message by Councillor Rhiannon Bennett, Chair of Cwmbran Community Council.
Reverend Brian Pippen said an opening prayer which was followed by a reading from Councillor Rhiannon Bennett:
“In honour of the Merchant Navy and fishing fleets, past present and future: the sustained us in war, they sustain us in peace. To all who have served, we owe our thanks and remembrance”.
The flags were then raised and a two minute silence observed. Reverend Brian Pippen closed the service with a prayer.
